Vis, the most remote island from the Croatian mainland, offers an untouched Adriatic paradise.

Vis remains a throwback to simpler times, with family-run restaurants, all-day café, and some of Europe’s most stunning beaches.

How to Reach Vis Island

There’s no airport on Vis, so access is via ferry from the mainland. The best option is to fly into Split airport, then drive about 30 minutes to the ferry port.

Jadrolinija Ferry: Takes about 2 hours 20 minutes, with tickets priced around 9€ for foot passengers. The ferry offers air conditioning and a snack bar serving chips, and other snacks. You can choose between indoor and outdoor seating. It’s recommended to book in advance, especially during peak season, although tickets can also be purchased at the port.

Catamaran: This smaller boat takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on stops, with fares around 30€. The catamaran has indoor seating only, with no outdoor option.

Where to Stay in Vis

Vis Island has two main towns: Vis Town and Komiza. Vis Town is easily accessible, located near the ferry port, and offers more restaurants, bar, and shops. It’s the larger town, though it can feel a bit busier and more commercialized. Komiza, located on the opposite side of the island, is about a 20-minute drive from Vis Town.

This smaller town has fewer restaurants and bar, making it a quieter, more laid-back option. Staying in Komiza offers easy access to beautiful beaches and boat trips from the marina. It’s ideal for those seeking a more tranquil experience.

What to Know About Vis

The official language on Vis is Croatian, though many locals speak English. While the island is quiet, it offers a serene environment, perfect for those who prefer a peaceful getaway.

Renting a car is recommended if you plan to venture outside Vis Town or Komiza, as public transportation is limited and taxis are rare and costly. However, many visitors opt to stay in Komiza and use taxis for wineries, restaurants, and boats for beach exploration.
