Lights, vibrant colors, excitement, horse shows, and flamenco—these are just some of the highlights of the Feria de Sevilla.

Founded in 1846 by a Catalan and Basque, this celebration is not only the most significant in Seville but also one of Spain’s most anticipated and renowned events.

Known as the April Fair, the Feria de Sevilla takes place annually in the Los Remedios neighborhood. Covering more than 450,000 square meters and featuring over 1,000 casetas, it’s no wonder that this fair is the event of the year in Seville.

What is the Feria?

Recognized by the Government of Spain as a Festival of International Tourist Interest, the Feria de Sevilla is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year. During this vibrant celebration, the city dresses to impress—men often donning suits and women wearing traditional flamenco dresses—and the air is filled with excitement. Locals and tourists alike come together to enjoy the lively music, delicious food, and the festive atmosphere.

The Feria officially kicks off on Monday night with the Noche del Pescaíto, where fish is typically served for dinner before everyone gathers at the main gateway to witness the stunning lights being switched on. Once the lights come alive, the real celebration begins! You'll be treated to flamenco dancing, parades featuring horses and carriages, and even funfair rides for both kids and adults.

While the Feria shares similarities with similar events in other Spanish cities like Córdoba and Málaga, it stands out as a much larger and more private affair. The casetas—marquee-like tents where the celebrations and dancing take place—are typically private, belonging to families and friends. However, some public casetas do exist, so everyone can join in the fun.

The Feria is also the perfect time to experience a bullfight. Whether you're a seasoned fan or a first-timer, the Maestranza Bullring hosts some of the most highly anticipated bullfights of the season during this festive period.

Origins of the Feria

The origins of the Feria trace back to 1847 as an agricultural and livestock fair, which brought cow farmers to Seville with their animals. Over time, the former stables were transformed into vibrant casetas, filled with music, light, and color.

Cuisine

The Feria de Sevilla is the perfect occasion to indulge in the city’s most iconic dishes, all served in a lively, traditional setting. Fried fish served in paper cones and papas aliñás (a type of potato salad) are common favorites!

Feria of Seville 2025
