We’ve all seen the rise of Hungarian football talent over the past few years, but few have captured our attention as much as Dominik Szoboszlai. Born on October 25, 2000, in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, Szoboszlai started his career in the youth system of Fehérvár FC,


and since then, he’s risen to become one of the top midfielders in Europe. Today, he plays for Liverpool in the Premier League, and his journey from Hungary to one of the world’s biggest football clubs is one worth following.


Starting His Career at FC Liefering


Our story begins in 2017, when Szoboszlai made his professional debut with FC Liefering, the second team of Red Bull Salzburg. At just 16 years old, he quickly made a mark in Austria’s second division. His performance was outstanding, scoring goals and showing his potential. It didn’t take long for him to catch the eye of top clubs, and by 2018, he was playing for the main team, Red Bull Salzburg.


Success with Red Bull Salzburg


At Salzburg, Szoboszlai’s career truly took off. We watched him grow as a player, earning the respect of fans and opponents alike. During his time with Salzburg, he helped the team win three league titles and two domestic cups. His skills were undeniable, and in the 2019–2020 season, Szoboszlai stood out as one of Austria’s best. He even bagged a hat-trick against Sturm Graz, a performance that solidified his place as the league's Player of the Year.


As part of Salzburg, Szoboszlai didn’t just excel domestically—he also shone in the UEFA Champions League. We all remember his stunning performance in 2019, scoring against Genk in a 6–2 victory, a goal that made him a household name across Europe.


A Move to RB Leipzig


By 2021, Szoboszlai’s reputation was undeniable, and he made a big move to RB Leipzig in Germany for €20 million, making him the most expensive Hungarian footballer at the time. Despite struggling with an injury in his first season, Szoboszlai bounced back strong in the 2021–2022 Bundesliga season, scoring six goals and making a significant impact on Leipzig’s attacking play. We witnessed his growth firsthand, as he helped Leipzig win two DFB-Pokal titles, showcasing his ability on the European stage.


The Big Move to Liverpool


In July 2023, Szoboszlai made the jump to the Premier League, joining Liverpool for a reported fee of €70 million. His arrival was a major coup for the club, making him their fourth-most expensive signing. We couldn’t wait to see how the young Hungarian would adapt to one of the world’s most competitive leagues.


Szoboszlai didn’t disappoint. He made an immediate impact in his debut season, scoring his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa in just his third game for Liverpool. His creativity and passing range made him a standout, quickly earning him the title of Player of the Month in August 2023. By October, he was already creating the most chances for Liverpool in the Premier League, a testament to his vision and skill.


Overcoming Challenges


Like any great player, Szoboszlai’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In January 2024, he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for several weeks. However, we saw his determination as he returned to help Liverpool in the FA Cup, playing a key role in their victories. By March 2024, Szoboszlai was back on the field, showcasing his resilience and desire to help his team win.


2024–2025: Dominating the Premier League and Beyond


As we entered the 2024–2025 season, Szoboszlai’s contributions continued to grow. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against AC Milan in September 2024, followed by his first Premier League goal of the season in a thrilling 3–2 win over Southampton. We watched in awe as he also delivered an incredible performance against Manchester City in February 2025, scoring and assisting in a 2–0 victory that helped extend Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table.
