One of the most famous attractions in Yading Nature Reserve is the Three Sacred Mountains: Mount Chenrezig, Mount Jambeyang, and Mount Chanadorje. Each mountain holds deep spiritual significance for Tibetan Buddhists, and their towering, snow-covered peaks are mesmerizing. These mountains form the heart of the reserve, and they stand like guardians watching over the landscape.
We spent an entire day hiking around the area, marveling at the breathtaking views. The trail led us through forests, across streams, and up to higher altitudes where the air was thin, but the views were unmatched. The best time to visit is during the summer months (June to September), when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom. Tickets for access to the reserve are CNY 150 for adults, and the park is open from 8 AM to 6 PM daily.
Another must-visit spot in Yading Nature Reserve is Milk Lake (Naihai), known for its stunning turquoise waters that shimmer against the backdrop of the mountains. We were in awe as we approached the lake, with its serene, almost otherworldly beauty. The water of the lake is said to have healing powers.
Getting to the lake requires a bit of effort, but the reward is more than worth it. We hiked for several hours, passing through quiet valleys and rocky trails, before finally arriving at this pristine lake. If you're planning to hike, make sure you're physically prepared, as the altitude can be challenging. The lake is best visited in the early morning or late afternoon to capture its stunning reflection in the water. The entry fee for Milk Lake is also CNY 150, and the reserve is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM.
Before heading to Yading, there are a few things we wish we had known. First, prepare for the high altitude. The reserve is located at over 3,000 meters above sea level, and some areas, such as the Milk Lake, are even higher. We recommend staying a night in Daocheng Town to acclimatize before heading up to the reserve.
Additionally, the weather can be unpredictable, even in the summer. We experienced sudden rain showers, so we made sure to pack waterproof jackets, sturdy hiking boots, and sun protection. It's also important to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited facilities within the park. Lastly, we highly recommend booking a local guide to help navigate the area and ensure a safe and enriching experience.
If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay near Yading Nature Reserve, we recommend the Yading Hotel in Daocheng Town. This cozy hotel offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and it's just a 2-hour drive from the park entrance. The rooms are simple but comfortable, with warm beds to rest after a long day of hiking. Prices start at around CNY 250 per night for a standard room, and they offer a range of amenities including free Wi-Fi, hot showers, and a restaurant serving local Tibetan cuisine. It's the perfect base for your adventures in Yading!

Whether you're an avid hiker or simply someone who loves to immerse themselves in the raw beauty of nature, Yading is a place that will leave you feeling awe-struck and rejuvenated.
